Axalta adds cosmetic assessment
Axalta Coating Systems has added a new ATA Cosmetic Repair Technician assessment to its training offering in the UK, for each of its three global refinish brands – Cromax, Spies Hecker and Standox.
Kevin Welling, training academy manager for Axalta Coating Systems in the UK and Ireland, said, ‘The ATA Cosmetic Repair Technician assessment is a relatively new addition to the ATA accreditations. It is aimed at refinishers and bodyshops wishing to offer vehicle owners, SMART/cosmetic repairs.
‘With more bodyshops identifying these types of repairs as an additional revenue stream, it is a rapidly growing sector of the market. Therefore with an increasing number of mobile SMART/cosmetic repair businesses also emerging, it made sense for Axalta’s three global refinish brands to add this ATA assessment to their annual training programme.’
The ATA Cosmetic Repair Technician assessment takes one day to complete and is comprised of six modules: damage identification, minor panel damage repair, plastic repair filler application, foundations materials, completion of a three stage paint system repair, and removing and refitting a door card and a rear lamp.
The requirement for taking the ATA Cosmetic Repair Technician assessment is a minimum of two years bodyshop or mobile experience in the accident repair sector. Participants also need to be familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques of panel repair.
The ATA Cosmetic Repair Technician assessments will run twice a month from the Axalta Training Academy in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.
