Female campaigner gets top accolade
A woman who for more than a decade has been campaigning to make garages more female-friendly has been given a top industry accolade.
Steph Savill launched the UK’s only motoring association for women, FOXY Lady Drivers Club, in 2004 to achieve higher quality standards in UK garages and car dealerships.
More than 12,000 women have since signed up to the club – and Steph’s achievements have now been acknowledged by the UK’s leading professional automotive body, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
On March 12 they presented the 54-year-old with its Outstanding Contribution to the Motor Industry Award.
Working from offices in Steyning, West Sussex, Steph has won industry admiration for her efforts to identify and promote garages that go that extra mile for women drivers so they don’t feel intimidated or ignored in such a masculine environment.
Steph said, ‘I’m so flattered that the IMI has recognised and chosen to acknowledge my work after seeming to be a lone female voice in the wilderness about gender diversity for so many years!’
The idea for the club was born 14 years ago after Steph’s step-daughter Emma came home upset after she had been treated badly by a garage.
