MOT annual assessment deadline looms for 28,000 techs

The IMI is urging the 28,000 technicians yet to complete their MOT annual assessment to make the most of its flexible e-learning solution.
Technicians have until 31 March to complete their annual assessments, but the IMI has reported that more than 28,000 testers have not yet done so.
The annual assessment ensures testers remain compliant and are legally entitled to carry out MOT tests on vehicles.
The IMI’s e-learning solution has been specifically designed to accommodate a tester’s schedule. It includes a three-hour e-learning training module that can be completed in bite-size chunks, and also allows the assessment to be taken twice to help technicians achieve the DVSA pass rate of 80%.
Lindsey Mitchell, director of development, quality and compliance of the IMI, said:
“The reality is that if an MOT tester fails to meet the MOT Annual Assessment deadline their testing status will be suspended from 1 April. They will have to complete the current year’s assessment and a demonstration test with the DVSA, as well as complete and submit a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This could all result in a loss of income for the MOT testing station due to the time it can take to have these completed.”
