Stoneacre taps into Toyota’s Autotech Internship Programme

Stoneacre Motor Group is tackling the skills crisis in the industry through a new collaboration with Toyota’s Autotech Internship Programme.

Toyota GB launched the programme with Autotech Group in 2023 to tackle the skills crisis in the industry and support the company’s recruitment programme. It links newly qualified Level 3 automotive students with motor industry employers, offering six-to-12 month paid internships that lead to full-time employment in over 95% of cases.

With more 60 Toyota dealerships in the UK, Stoneacre has now fully embraced this initiative and to date 10 Autotech Academy interns have been placed at its sites. Among them, Cameron Bell has recently completed his seven-month internship and secured a role as a technician at Stoneacre Newcastle.

He said: “The support behind the internship really stood out to me. From the tools and uniform provided to the strong network that guided me through my first months, these are facets we wouldn’t have had without this programme.”

Dean Upton, aftersales manager at Stoneacre Newcastle, said:

“The interns arrive with skills but no preconceived industry experience, making them ideal candidates. We’re able to mould them into specific roles tailored to our workshop goals with a clear focus and structured training.”

Jim Kay, regional aftersales performance manager Toyota Stoneacre, said: “It’s crucial that everyone across the business has an open mind to adopting new recruitment strategies. By mentoring young talent, bringing in expert trainers to support development, and creating opportunities to grow, we’ve built a successful foundation that works. We can now say we’re truly growing our talent in-house.”
