Auto Trader reveals fastest selling used cars of 2024
Auto Trader has revealed the fastest selling used cars of 2024, with the Mercedes-Benz GLB Class proving to be the most in-demand model.
It sold on average in just 16 days on average, with the German brand also securing second spot through its A Class, which sold on average in 16.5 days.
Both models significantly outperformed the used car average, which was recorded at 30 days last year.
However, the market average was still two days quicker than in 2023, and that momentum has carried forward into 2025 with used cars selling in an average of 39 days so far this month, which is three days faster that the same period in 2024.
Fastest selling used cars of 2024 by fuel type
Electric vehicles (EVs) emerged as the fastest-selling fuel type in 2024 – 29 days – with the average selling duration four days quicker in the second half of the year than the first. So far in January, used EVs are selling in 35 days compared to the 52-day average this time last year.
Richard Walker, data and insight director at Auto Trader, said: “We’ve entered January with real momentum, following a very positive market performance last year. Cars sold at a rapid pace, demand was very robust, and prices were stable.
“But 2024 really was the year of the used EV, especially for those ‘middle-aged’ models which have become more accessible than ever, helping demand rocket over the last 12 months or so. It shows that when the price is right, car buyers are more than happy to make the switch to electric.”
