BCA announces 2025 spike in EV sales in first week

BCA has reported a 2025 spike in EV sales, with more zero emission vehicles sold across its online auctions in the first full trading week of the year than ever before.

Nearly 1,000 electric vehicles were sold at the start of the year, making the first week of 2025 the largest week in terms of EV sales volumes the company has ever recorded.

After registering a 35% uptick in different EV buyers last year, it is now predicting well over 40,000 EV sales in the next 12 months.

It says demand is being driven by growing customer confidence in the quality of used EVs as well as falling prices, with many now on a par or cheaper than their petrol or diesel equivalents.

2025 spike in EV sales

BCA COO Stuart Pearson said: “EV volumes in our online auctions continue to grow significantly year-on-year and we continue to invest and refine the remarketing process to drive optimal value in this sector.

“Whilst the remarketing basics remain relevant regardless of fuel or vehicle type, in this sector in particular, ensuring that customers have all of the available information when buying or selling will help to drive the best results.

“A record broken in the first full trading week of the year certainly sets the tone for trading and provides credibility to the belief that customer perception on used EVs is changing for the good. With returns expected to lift significantly this year, we continue to invest in the infrastructure and supporting services to create the best possible wholesale market for used EVs.”
