Charging issues make up just 2% of roadside call-outs
Less than two per cent of roadside call-outs for electric vehicles are because the battery has run out of charge, according to new data from The AA.
It found that in the last year ‘out of charge’ call-outs accounted for only 1.85% of all breakdowns for electric vehicles. This is down from 2.26% in 2023 and 8.26% in 2015.
It said that of the near 8,000 breakdowns it attends each day, less than six are for electric vehicles that have run out of charge.
Further analysis revealed that in 30% of cases the reason for electric vehicle breakdowns was identical to those of petrol and diesel cars – tyres, wheels and the 12V battery.
AA president Edmund King said:
“We understand why many drivers have been hesitant about switching to EVs as it is a major change, but it is important that their decisions are based on accurate information. Once drivers have made the switch, the vast majority enjoy the ride and won’t go back.”
