Chery sales surge on the back of European expansion
Chinese vehicle manufacturer Chery has reported a 205% increase in electric vehicle sales so far this year.
It has sold 403,118 EV units, with growth driven largely by expansion into Europe. Its Omoda and Jaecoo models are now available in 27 countries following launches this year into the UK, Spanish and Italian markets, with further European expansion planned.
In the UK, it has established a network of 60 dealerships and plans to increase that to more than 100 by the end of the year.
The company, which announced a landmark strategic partnership with Thatcham Research to embed insurability into its design process, has also said it is considering developing a UK-based manufacturing site.
In total, Chery has recorded sales of more than two million units between January and October, with exports rising by 23.8% to 941,275 vehicles. The company has set a sales target of 2.5 million units next year
Jochen Tueting, managing director of Chery Europe, said:
“As a well-known technology-oriented automotive group, we will launch numerous new Omoda and Jaecoo variants in Europe by the end of 2025. The focus will be on B, C and D segment models as well as the wide mix of different powertrain options typical of Chery, from pure petrol to PHEV/HEV and all-electric vehicles.”
