NFDA receives Cabinet assurances for Northern Ireland trade
The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) Northern Ireland division has received assurances from the Cabinet Office that the movement and sale of new vehicles in Northern Ireland will remain unaffected with the proposed updating of type approval emission testing regulations.
However, the NFDA has emphasised the need for ongoing consultation with dealers, as they play a pivotal role in vehicle registration and sales within the province.
Additionally, the NFDA has submitted a response to the Department for Transport’s ‘Updating GB-type approval for road vehicles’ consultation, urging the acceptance of UNECE regulations proposed in the consultation. This alignment would not only position the UK automotive industry more in sync with the EU, but with the automatic adoption of Euro 6e emissions testing due to the Windsor Framework, it is pivotal that GB follow suit.
Sue Robinson, NFDA chief executive, said: “NFDA will continue to monitor developments in the EU, taking into consideration the implications for the GB scheme and the impact it will have for our members.
“With Brexit providing regulatory liberties, NFDA has urged the government to prioritise harmonised standards developed through UNECE Regulations to avoid double testing, ensuring the all regions of the UK market remain attractive to European car manufacturers.”
