VWG reports 25% increase in EV sales
The Volkswagen Group has reported that sales of electric vehicles have risen 25% in the first nine months of 2022.
Despite ongoing supply constraints, 366,400 battery electric vehicles have been delivered to customers since January, up from 293,000 in the prior-year period.
Meanwhile, the EV share of all deliveries rose to six per cent, up from 4.2 per cent in the same period of 2021.
China remains the biggest driver with 112,700 EVs – more than twice as many as at the end of the third quarter last year 2021 – while on a regional basis, Europe clearly remained in the lead with 211,900 vehicles (58% of Group total) in the first nine months. After China, the USA accounted for eight per cent of the group’s global EV deliveries with 28,900 vehicles.
Taking a more granular approach, the Volkswagen brand delivered 207,200 BEVs to customers (57% of Group total) in the first nine months of the year. This was followed by Audi with 77,000 vehicles (21%), ŠKODA with 36,900 vehicles (10%), Porsche with 25,100 vehicles (seven per cent), and SEAT/CUPRA with 17,600 vehicles (five per cent).
