Petrol and diesel ban mooted for 2030

It’s been reported the government will bring forward its ban on the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles to 2030.

The government initially planned to introduce the ban in 2040.

However, it’s been reported that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce in the autumn that the ban will now be introduced in 2030. It’s understood the announcement would have been made this week but for the coronavirus.

The 2040 ban was first announced in 2018, but Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said earlier this year the ban could be brought forward to 2035 or 2032.
