Prasco responds to catalytic converter thefts

Prasco UK Ltd has responded to the needs of repairers, garages and insurance companies following the escalating scourge of catalytic converter theft.

The Doncaster-based parts supplier has listened to its customer base and responded to their need for replacement catalytic converters stolen for their scrap metal value. The company has partnered with one of its Italian suppliers and is producing their own units.

To date, they have supplied replacement catalytic converters for models commonly targeted by thieves including Toyota Prius and Auris cars and Mercedes Sprinter vans. But the Doncaster-based company has a product line-up to suit 40 models.

Patrick Deakes, head of sales for Prasco UK, said: “Replacing catalytic converters stolen for their metals is a major issue faced by garages, repair centres and insurance companies. Quite simply, the supply within the industry cannot meet demand. We know there are scores of vehicles simply parked at repair centres waiting for replacements. We have listened to our customers who are struggling to source replacements and developed our own solution.”

Numerous press reports over recent months have highlighted the escalating problem with police reporting how organised gangs have been stripping cars of catalytic converters with some brazen thieves jacking up vehicles in broad daylight to steal the valuable metals. Thieves are cashing in on lucrative prices for various contained in the converters including rhodium, palladium and platinum.
