Uber appeals employee ruling
Uber is appealing the ruling that its drivers should be classed as employees.
At a landmark tribunal found that its drivers should be classed as workers and were therefore entitled to the minimum wage, sick pay and paid holidays.
However, Uber appealed on Tuesday in a bid to overturn the ruling.
Jo Bertram, Uber’s UK general manager, said, ‘Tens of thousands of people in London drive with Uber precisely because they want to be self-employed and their own boss. The overwhelming majority of drivers who use the Uber app want to keep the freedom and flexibility of being able to drive when and where they want.’
It’s understood 25 drivers are planning to claim workers’ rights from Uber, and thousands more could follow suit with claims for money and benefits they have not received from Uber.
