VW targets one million EVs
Volkswagen Group has set its sights on a million units of electric and plug-in hybrid sales by 2025 in order to meet increasingly strict carbon dioxide emission limits.
The car manufacturer has nine electric or plug-in models at the moment, but want to expand the range with 20 new launches by 2020.
Thomas Lieber, VW brand’s head of complete vehicle development for electrified cars, said, ‘It’s simple – the CO2 legislation in the various regions will mean every OEM is compelled to offer e-mobility.’
VW could build up to 75,000 battery electric and plug-in hybrids a year if demand rises, with VW brand production chief Thomas Ulbrich telling reporters that VW could double capacity in its three European plants that build EV.
