REAL Rally revs into action
On Thursday 21 April The REAL Rally hits the road for a three-day journey through northern Europe, raising funds for REAL – The Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund.
The starting line-up consists of 30 cars, each of which was purchased for a maximum of £1,000 and decorated according to the entrants own taste. Each entry has also pledged to raise at least £500 for the charity.
‘It’s fair to say that everyone is getting rather excited now. We have had a fantastic response; from competitors, sponsors and people in general,’ said Bob Linwood, one of the charity’s founders and trustees. ‘We personally know all of the entrants and one look at our dedicated website, www.therealrally.co.uk and our REAL Rally Facebook page will give you an idea about the level of banter and interest that it has created. Nearly everyone has done something crazy with their car. We have five different super-hero themed cars, a few Black Cabs and a Mercedes convertible where each panel was painted a different colour by young people attending a recent career advice evening we held at Rye Street Group.’
The REAL Rally gets underway from Rye Street Group’s site at Raynham Road, Bishops Stortford between 6.30am and 7.30am on Thursday. Most of the contestants have decided to dress up in 70s Glam Rock outfits for the first day’s journey, so there’ll be plenty of garish shirts and wigs on display.
If anyone wants to make a donation to the rally, they can visit the rally websites ‘Teams’ page and choose their favourite looking car or team and then make a donation via their personal fundraising page.
The event, organised by REAL, will help raise funds to continue its work with young people.
