Insurer business models under spotlight
The Driverless Technologies Insurance 2016 summit taking place in London next week is set to focus on adapting insurance business models to assisted driving.
Included in the speaker line-up is Andy Price, practice leader – EMEA, Zurich; Doug Jenkins, manager risk control – Motor, AXA; Rubén Aparicio–Mourelo, deputy head director of innovation, CESVIMAP (MAPFRE), and Matthew Avery, director of research, Thatcham Research.
Speaking prior to the event, Doug Jenkins, manager risk control – Motor, AXA, said, ‘The subject of vehicle technology is on most people’s agenda.
‘We are a long way away from fully autonomous vehicles. The technology to manage vehicles has been around for some time, so some of this is not new. The current vehicle technology is quite complex already, so much more understanding and communication is required to move this forward.’
On the subject of when does personal liability turn into product liability in the context of autonomous vehicles, Doug said, ‘It’s an area I feel that the courts may well decide upon. If there has been human interaction and a third party is injured, it may stay with the motor policy, but if it is designed to be autonomous, it could be different.’
The Driverless Technologies Insurance 2016 summit takes place on 17 March.
