Ford nearing a million sales
Ford can expect to sell more than a million cars in China this year after November sales were up nine per cent compared to 2014 figures.
More than 106,000 Ford cars were driven off the forecourt last month, taking year-to-date sales to 990,356.
John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China, said, ‘We are pleased that more and more customers are relying on Ford to provide them with vehicles they both want and value.
‘We remain committed to offering a full range of high-quality, safe, smart and fuel-efficient vehicles in China.’
Ford’s November spike was driven by Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), Ford’s passenger car joint venture. It recorded a 22 per cent increase during November compared to the same period 12 months ago, with sales of 84,546 units.
That offset a 20 per cent decrease in sales during the same month for Jiangling Motors Corporation, Ford’s commercial vehicle investment. It sold 20,608 vehicles and is five per cent down for the year compared to 2014.
Of the individual models, the Ford Mondeo was the headline act with 12,431 sales representing a 13 per cent increase during November. The Ford Kuga and the Ford Edge also sold more than 10,000 vehicles each last month.
Meanwhile, Ford continued its plan to deliver 15 models to China by the end of 2015 by launching its Taurus sedan.
Next year the company plans to launch two new energy vehicles into the market, the Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and the Ford Mondeo hybrid electric vehicle.
