Used cars selling faster in 2025 than any other year

Auta Trader has reported that used cars on its platform are selling faster in 2025 than any previous year.

It recorded average sales times of 25 days in March, building on the momentum of January (31 days) and February (28 days).

The Vauxhall Grandland is now the most in-demand vehicle, with under one-year-old petrol-hybrid versions selling in just seven and a half days on average in March.

This is closely followed by another petrol-hybrid SUV with the one-year-old Mercedes-Benz GLC selling in just eight and a half days while the Jeep Avenger took on average 11 days to sell.

Nearly new segment

Analysis also revealed growing demand for certain models in the nearly new segment, with half the cars in the top 10 list being under a year old. Interestingly, 80% of the slowest-selling used cars are also in the ‘nearly new’ cohort, with cars up to one year old the slowest-selling age group, taking 31 days to sell on average.

Conversely, used cars aged 5-10 years are selling in just 23 days on average.

Richard Walker, Auto Trader’s data and insight’s director, said:

“The accelerating speed at which cars are moving off forecourts faster is an encouraging sign for the used car market. However, this record speed of sale does suggest that for many retailers there’s room to optimise pricing to fully capitalise on the robust levels of consumer demand.

“Retailers need to be confident in their pricing and, with the used market currently buoyant, price correctly to the retail market.”
