Spike in alloy wheel repairs driven by poor road quality

The poor condition of UK roads has led to a sharp increase in alloy wheel repairs.
According to smart repairer Revive! UK, wheel repair sales increased by 10% during 2024 with the deteriorating state of the UKs roads a contributing factor.
The government has pledged to repair seven million potholes in the UK with an investment of £1.6bn through its Plan for Change initiative. However, experts believe this is not enough to tackle the pothole pandemic.
Revive! has revealed that the condition of UKs roads has been decreasing for so long that their alloy wheel repair customers have grown by 22% since 2021, making up 27% of the company’s workload in 2024 alone.
It explained that damage occurs to alloy wheels when stones or grit is thrown up by other road users which can scratch or chip the wheel. This is worsened by potholes which can cause the vehicles tyre to deform to such an extent that the alloy scrapes the tarmac, or even just the edge of the pothole.
Research from Revive! has found that the UKs biggest hotspot for potholes was Surrey, with an astonishing one in 20 of the UKs potholes being in the county.
