JLR invests in specialist paint facilities

JLR is investing £65m in specialist paint facilities to meet growing demand for personalised colour options.
It has said customers wanting to choose from hundreds of bespoke paint and palette options for its Range Rover and Ranger Rovers Sport models has doubled since 2022.
In response, it will open new paint facilities in Castle Bromwich in the West Midlands to support a further 17,000 orders each year.
As part of the £41m investment, new state-of-the-art spraybooths will be installed this year. The new booths will use the latest filtration techniques to cut energy and water use, as well as automated spray robots which reduce waste by 30% compared to painting by hand.
Meanwhile, JLR will also open a new £10m paint line in Slovakia, where its Defender and Discovery models are manufactured, which will see the addition of a new fully electric paint booth and new electric curing ovens, avoiding around 500 tonnes of CO2e per year.
Andrea Debbane, chief sustainability officer, said:
“JLR is seeing a significant increase in clients wanting to personalise their vehicles, so we are preparing to expand our facilities and offer thousands more paint options across our brands, but doing so in the most sustainable and efficient way possible.
