January sees demand for used diesels up 10% – NAMA

New analysis has revealed that demand for used diesels is up 10% in January compared to the same month last year.

According to the National Association of Motor Auctions (NAMA), which represents automotive auctions in the UK, members have seen a 10% spike in diesel searches among consumers.

By contrast, values of electric vehicles and hybrids have both fallen marginally, down 0.7% and 0.5% respectively.

Meanwhile, the LCV segment has also recorded mixed results in the first weeks of 2025, with NAMA members reporting that vehicles beyond the five-year mark, and damaged vehicles, are experiencing the most negative trends.

Paul Hill, NAMA spokesperson, said: “The LCV segment has seen a mixed performance, with the older market seeing some challenges. Some of this may be attributed to the upcoming Benefit-in-Kind tax changes for double cab pick-ups in April 2025.

“BEVs have also seen a weaker performance, down by 0.7%.

“But despite some challenges, from a wholesale standpoint, the market is demonstrating strong and promising signs as it enters the new year. The market has enjoyed a strong overall performance in January 2025 and we anticipate this positive momentum to continue through the first quarter.”
