Government extends plug-in van grant for another year

The Department for Transport has announced that the plug-in van grant will be extended for another year.
The scheme offers drivers grants of up to £2,500 when buying small vans up to 2.5 tonnes and up to £5,000 for larger vans up to 4.25 tonnes.
It was due to end in April, but the Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood has confirmed it will remain in place for another 12 months as part of a £120m funding package.
The DfT estimates that the scheme has helped more than 80,000 drivers purchase electric and zero-emission vans since its launch in 2012.
The Minister said:
“From van drivers and businesses to drivers with accessibility needs, bikers and cabbies, today we are making it easier, faster and cheaper for people to switch to electric vehicles. By making the transition to zero emissions a success, we’re helping to drive growth all over the UK, putting more money in people’s pockets and rebuilding Britain to deliver our Plan for Change.”
Meanwhile, the government has also announced it is removing the need for additional training when switching to a zero-emission van. The training was introduced to help drivers adjust to what are generally heavier vehicles.
