Women feel overcharged by repairers because of gender

New research has found two thirds of women in the UK believe they are overcharged by garages because of their gender.

Data suggests that 77% of women feel they cannot trust the prices being quoted, with 45% saying they don’t think the prices are fair or accurate.

The practice of charging women more than men for the same product or service is called ‘pink pricing’.

Now, new research from car tech company Carly has revealed that 61% of UK woman support regulations being introduced that penalise repairers if it can be proved they have inflated prices when quoting to women.

To support this, Carly has recently launched its Repair Costs AI tool which allows motorists to estimate any issues with their vehicles and get a correct cost prediction for the repairs needed.

Overcharged

Daniel Meeghan, UK country manager of Carly, said:

“The fact that women are still being treated unfairly in car maintenance is shocking, but it’s a reality we aim to change by increasing industry transparency. If more women—and all drivers, for that matter—have access to accurate, real-time information about their cars, they can feel empowered to question their mechanics, leading to long-term, trustworthy relationships with car garages.”
