Vehicle damage goes unrepaired by 12% of drivers

Analysis of vehicle repair data has revealed that 12% of drivers don’t bother fixing their damaged cars, with a further 11% reporting a negative experience when they did.

According to research carried out by automotive specialist manufacturer JTAPE, 80% of motorists said they had suffered car damage.

Of this number, 81% said the damage was paint scratches and scruffs, with 61% reporting dents and 27% cracked windscreens. Meanwhile, 26% of survey respondents said they had experienced vehicle vandalism.

The research also found that 41% of UK drivers currently have some form of damage to their vehicles, but 12% do not intend to get their cars fixed while 37% have tried to carry out repairs themselves rather than go to a professional.

Of those attempting DIY repairs, 12% reported ‘good’ results, 61% said the outcome was ‘ok’, while 27% admitted the results of their own work was ‘poor’.

Encouragingly, more than half (51%) of respondents said they get their cars repaired quickly following damage, with 35% saying they get damage fixed within a month and 16% within a week.
