Number of electric vehicles on UK roads tops 1.3 million
A new report has revealed that the number of electric vehicles on UK roads has now exceeded 1.3 million.
Data from Zap Map’s seventh annual survey has found that 3.94% of all vehicles on the road are electric, up from 0.6% in 2020.
Of the EV drivers surveyed, fewer than three per cent said they would return to petrol or diesel cars, with owners giving their electric vehicle an 87% satisfaction rate.
Cost-effectiveness (78%), environmental factors (73%), and vehicle performance (65%) were key factors in this decision to remain with EVs.
Meanwhile, the survey also found that more than half of EV drivers use the public charging network at least once a month, giving it an overall satisfaction rating of 64%.
Zap Map data has revealed that at the end of November there were 72,594 electric vehicle charging points across the UK, across 36,316 charging locations and 106,094 connectors. This compares to 20,964 at the end of 2020 and 53,865 by the end of 2023.
This marks a 32% rise in charging points since December 2023 and a 37% year-on-year growth since November 2023.
