LKQ launches first-of-its-kind bodyshop training proposition

LKQ Academy has launched a first-of-its-kind bodyshop training proposition introducing 12 new courses designed to upskill bodyshop professionals.

The new bodyshop-dedicated training prospectus caters for all abilities. Courses start from beginner, supporting apprentices and industry newcomers with options including Introduction to Panel Preparation and Introduction to Refinish Application.

Intermediate courses are provided for those looking to enhance existing skills, with training in Polishing Oven and Rectification Processes, Plastic Repair Process and Glass Repair.

Advanced, specialist programmes will help technicians who have mastered body repair techniques to expand their knowledge and skills in specific areas, including Advanced Refinish Application and Special Effect Colours.

Learners can also benefit from access to an industry-leading programme of Intelligent Repair courses, focusing on topics including trim repair and paintless dent removal.

A free skills assessment tool has also been launched alongside the prospectus. The new tool assesses customers’ areas for development, from alloy wheel repair to spray gun use, based on users’ answers to a bitesize 10-minute questionnaire. It advises on what courses will help professionals to achieve their development goals.

New courses will join customer-favourites including Introduction to Sustainability in the Bodyshop, which launched last year, alongside Tech for Non-Tech: Hybrid/EVs Explained and Becoming an EV Bodyshop, helping bodyshops take advantage of the increasing number of EV and hybrid vehicles entering the used car market.

First-of-its-kind bodyshop training - LKQ Bodyshop MD Chris O'Rourke

Chris O’Rourke, managing director at LKQ Bodyshop, said of the first-of-its-kind bodyshop training proposition:

“Navigating the skills shortage is vital for the future of the independent aftermarket. And we recognise the importance of creating a dedicated space to help bodyshops  develop their talent sooner rather than later. Our new, training proposition advances on our existing success with the LKQ Academy and builds on the work we’ve already been doing to support bodyshop professionals with transferrable courses.

“Our skills assessment is designed to make it easier for managers to understand where their technicians could benefit from additional training, helping them meet the challenges of today’s marketplace and to grow both profitably and sustainably.

“Once technicians have understood where they need to invest in training, we can support them with a range of market-leading bodyshop courses offered through the LKQ Academy. This includes new additions for all abilities alongside our popular range of EV/hybrid courses for bodyshops – helping unlock a new stream of revenue and build customer trust and relationships as more EVs and hybrids enter the car parc,” he added.

LKQ Academy bodyshop level memberships start at £83.25 per month (+VAT) for a Bronze membership – six training days and six e-learning courses – with the top, Platinum membership, priced at £208.25 (+VAT) for 20 training days and 20 e-learning courses. The latter is designed to help upskill the whole bodyshop, with flexibility to change and adapt as your team does and no limit on the number of people trained.
