Auto Windscreens names Best Technician UK

Auto Windscreens has named Tom Barker from Rochester ‘Best Technician’ in the UK for the third time.

He won the award at the company’s ‘Clearly the Best’ final this week, which was held at its training centre and headquarters in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Finalists were tested on timed and quality assessed car windscreen repair and replacement, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration and replacement of door glass. They were also evaluated on customer service skills, health and safety and the Environmental, Social and Governance aspects of their role.

Barker won the award ahead of Alex Stamen from Abingdon, Anthony Williams from Port Talbot and Pete Rose from Swansea.

He said: “It means a lot to me to have my name on the Clearly the Best trophy three times. It’s the first time it’s been done and it’s fantastic to be recognised for my work in this way. I’m very proud to be ‘Clearly the Best’ technician 2024.”

Sean Draycott, operations director at Auto Windscreens, said:

“Our technicians have a challenging role, and one that’s changing all the time due to advancements in glass and in ADAS technology. We hold this competition every year because we’re so proud of all our technicians’ training and skills and how they look after our customers. The finalists this year have a combined 70 years’ experience between them, and with Tom being a previous champion, it was quite a contest. Our winner and our finalists epitomise all that’s ‘Clearly the Best’ about our company and our industry, and I’d like to congratulate them all on their achievements.”

Meanwhile, Kasper McKinnon from the Southend-on-Sea service centre was named Auto Windscreens Apprentice of the Year.
