A quarter of UK van drivers suffer poor mental health
Research from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has found that 24% of UK van drivers have suffered depression or mental health issues this year as a result of work pressures.
Published to mark International Stress Awareness Week, the report found that a poor work-life balance and overwork were the top causes for 32% and 28% of respondents respectively.
Meanwhile, 51% of the 1,000 UK van drivers surveyed reported feeling overwhelmed by work every month.
The main factor was an increased workload, with 60% of UK van drivers saying their working hours had increased. As many as 40% said they were working more than 10 hours a day, while 10% said they were working over 13 hours a day.
Eve Tyers, head of marketing and communications at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said:
“These findings clearly show the alarming number of van drivers in the UK that are feeling overworked and overwhelmed, as well as the impact this is having on their mental health. We’re therefore encouraging van drivers to prioritise their wellbeing, making sure to take the breaks they need to remain in good physical and mental shape day-to-day.”
