Jason Scharton of 3M joins IBIS ASEAN line-up

The International Bodyshop Industry Symposium (IBIS) is delighted to have 3M as a major agenda driving force at its premiere event in the ASEAN region.

Jason Scharton, senior manager, Global Expertise Delivery, 3M Collision, will deliver an opening presentation titled “Process and Procedure in Repair Planning” during the “Collision Talk” session of IBIS ASEAN. He will then join a panel discussion titled “Maintaining Profitability in a Crisis Economy” moderated by Michel Malik, group publisher and CEO, Body Shop News International.

Taking place on 16 March at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre as part of Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2023, IBIS ASEAN – which stands for the Association of South East Asian Nations – promises unparalleled networking opportunities and interactive high-level debates featuring top minds and industry leaders.

Scharton’s presentation will lay out the challenges that bodyshops are facing in relation to profitability and KPIs and emphasise the need for shops to be able to measure, understand, and manage their business and operations before they can make improvements. It will further be explained that establishing standard operating procedures for all aspects of operations will allow shops to understand what should be happening and get a handle on managing the work. And finally, the attendees will hear about the importance of repair planning in order to take advantage of the standardised procedures and workflows in the shop to minimise non-value-added activity and to maximise profit.

Scharton graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. He has spent the past 28 years with 3M supporting the automotive industry at first during the OEM design/assembly phases and then in the collision repair aftermarket. As a body structure specialist, he is well versed in structural adhesives, seam sealers, plastic/composite repair and other body related topics. In his current role as a Global Expertise Delivery manager, Scharton works to support the industry through training, educational development, and consulting services.

Commenting on 3M’s involvement in IBIS ASEAN, IBIS CEO Jason Moseley said: “This is so typical of the 3M team, to step up and lead from the front to support and educate the truly global collision repair community. Together with ourselves at IBIS we are able to drive a message across all markets of proper and quality repair process, that protects the vehicle owner and society as a whole.”

As the only global provider of automotive collision repair conferences, IBIS will bring its knowledge and expertise from across five continents to the ASEAN region for the first time. Under the 2023 theme of “Sustainable Strategies for Success”, IBIS will continue to look at current industry issues and seek answers to the key questions affecting the market.
