Bodyshops could feel pinch of rising paint costs

Paint companies are facing a sharp rise in prices for raw materials due to a shortage in supply.

According to the British Coatings Federation (BCF), further sharp increases are likely through the rest of 2021.

Paint companies have faced higher prices for a range of critical solvents as well as resins, some pigments, extenders, and packaging. Meanwhile, for solvents, the latest statistics for May 2021 show some prices more than double what they were on the same month in 2020.

With raw materials accounting for 50% of all costs within the paint industry, an inevitable knock on for customers is likely, which could result in prices hikes for bodyshops.
