Autoglass initiates sustainability initiatives
Autoglass has implemented a series of sustainability initiatives this year aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.
This year’s COP26 climate summit called upon fleet-owning businesses to commit to achieving a fully zero emission fleet by 2030 or earlier to support the country in securing global net zero by mid-century. These sustainability initiatives and achievements by Autoglass, which have been launched and delivered over the past 12 months, are part of a wider plan aimed at working towards these goals.
This year, one of the steps taken by Autoglass is to source 100% of the electricity used by the business from zero-carbon, renewable sources.
Furthermore, now recycles 100% of the damaged waste glass in windscreens. As a result, about 90% of the windscreen is being turned into recycled objects, such as glass bottles, every year.
Finally, Autoglass has also changed suppliers for its glass waste recycling service from a Belgium-based supplier to a UK-based alternative. This shorter journey to recycle the waste glass represents a reduction of 34,264 kilograms of C02 emissions per year. This is the equivalent of driving 84,811 miles per year in a typical car or driving the entire circumference of the UK 18 times.
Taxiarchis Konstantopoulos, managing director at Autoglass, said: “Sustainability has always been high on the agenda here at Autoglass and we are incredibly proud of the progress we have made this year in reducing our carbon footprint and increasing waste recycling. As a business, and as people, we care deeply about the communities in which we operate and are working hard to reduce our environmental impact and positively contribute to society in any way we can.”
“We know that there is still more to be done, and we are working to continue reducing our impact on the environment as well as working with our suppliers to ensure that we’re doing the right thing for our society and the world we live in.”
