Tesla overtakes VW as shares soar

Tesla is worth more than £76bn after its shares spiked yesterday. It has now leapfrogged Volkswagen to be the world’s second most valuable carmaker, behind Toyota.

Tesla shares have more than doubled since it reported a quarterly profit in October.

It reported sales of 367,500 cars last year, a 50% rise on 2018.

However, Volkswagen sold nearly 11 million units in 2019 while Toyota sold nine million vehicles in the first 11 months of the year.
