SMMT: showrooms must remain open

The Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders (SMMT) has insisted that car dealerships must remain open during the second national lockdown.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced at the weekend that a second national lockdown will be imposed from Thursday until at least 2 December. However, schools will remain open

SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said on Twitter: “As England heads back into lockdown, we need to keep business operating. Auto manufacturing must have its showrooms open; its proven safe and secure, a very different environment from other retail premises. We need to keep the economy turning – safely – and prevent wider job losses.”
