Remit Group adds second training academy
Just two years after launching its first, purpose-built Automotive Academy, national training provider Remit Group is expanding its provision by building an additional £500,000 facility in Derby.
The brand-new Automotive Academy will be fitted out to deliver heavy vehicle apprenticeships, alongside the new specialist tyre operative apprenticeship standard, as well as providing a suite of short course training for technicians.
The new 8,000 sqft site is expected to be fully operational by February 2020, and will be situated on Wincanton Close, almost adjacent to Remit’s current academy facility. It will include interactive classroom space, fully fitted workshops with industry standard tooling and equipment, as well as dedicated break-out areas.
The investment in a new academy facility will enable Remit Group to significantly increase its capacity for training apprentices on block release at its East Midlands automotive hub.
Industry suppliers were given a preview of this latest investment from Remit Group late last month, which is in response to increased demand for dedicated training facilities within the automotive sector. Through its commitment to raising apprenticeship standards and driving innovation within the industry, Remit has continued to develop partnerships with automotive manufacturers, dealerships and garages, both regionally and nationally, that can now benefit from the group’s tailored block release training model.
Working alongside leading organisations such as Scania, MAN Truck, Apollo Motor Group, Alton Cars, Available Car and British Car Auctions, Remit Group delivers a range of automotive apprenticeships including autocare, light and heavy vehicle technician, vehicle body repair, MET, vehicle damage paint and parts, and the recently announced launch of the first ever specialist tyre operative standard in conjunction with the NDTA.
In response to industry demand, the plans for this new facility also feature a portfolio of commercial programmes that will include training around electric vehicles, as well as IRTEC, F Gas and ADAS certification.
Remit’s current Automotive Academy has already supported hundreds of apprentices to complete their programmes, each of whom has benefited from access to high quality teaching, industry standard tooling and peer-led learning.
Remit Group CEO, Sue Pittock, said: “We are incredibly proud of our first Automotive Academy, which has been hugely successful over the past couple of years.
“Since 2017, the academy has continued to see an increase in numbers driven by the growth and development of new and existing client partnerships. With a long heritage in the automotive sector, we have made a commitment to remain at the forefront of innovation and to the delivery of the highest quality apprenticeships. This led to our decision to expand our provision further and invest in new facilities to ensure we have the infrastructure in place to support the continued increase of employers and apprentices we are working with.
“We look forward to welcoming our first group of apprentices to our new academy, and along with our current training facility, seeing both centres play an important role in the development of the next generation of automotive technicians,” Pittock said.
Part owned by the RMI, Remit Group has more than 100 years’ experience in the automotive sector and has used this understanding, combined with its in-depth knowledge of apprenticeship standards and the apprenticeship levy, to support the development of the next generation of skilled automotive technicians.
