Production begins on new EV model
Volvo has announced production has begun on its next fully electric model, the XC40, at its Ghent plant.
It says this marks a significant step towards its ambition to reduce its CO2 footprint per car by 40% by 2025, with fully electric vehicles making up half of all sales that year, with the rest hybrids.
Javier Varela, head of global industrial operations and quality, said: “This is a momentous occasion for Volvo Cars and for all employees here in Ghent. As we continue to electrify our line-up, the Ghent plant is a real trailblazer for our global manufacturing network.”
XC40 Recharge P8 offers a projected range of more than 249 on a single charge, while the battery can charge to 80% of its capacity in approximately 40 minutes on a fast-charger system.
