MG reports 45% surge in sales

MG Motor UK secured its best-ever month of sales for December and, in turn, achieved a record-breaking full year of sales.

For December, MG sold 1,702 cars, representing an incredible 162 per cent increase versus the same month in 2018. Furthermore, MG’s outstanding performance ensured it moved beyond a one per cent market share in a single month, with a 1.14 per cent share for December 2019.

Overall, total sales for 2019 were 13,075 units, meaning a 45 per cent uplift in registrations compared with the same 12-month period the year before.

Daniel Gregorious, head of sales and marketing at MG Motor UK, said: “Last year was a memorable one for the brand with a number of major milestones. Not only did we reach 100 dealers, but also surpassed five-figures in sales and introduced our first-ever electric model to drivers nationwide. Our mid-term momentum and growth plan will enable us to build on this fantastic foundation as further growth is forecast in 2020 and we work towards achieving 30,000 sales by 2021.

“Our dealer network is growing strongly and we currently have 20 new partners in the pipeline and ready to go live within the next few months, taking us to 120 sites by the middle of 2020. We also still have some key open points including Bristol, Plymouth, Liverpool, Leeds and Aberdeen, and we’re keen to speak with ambitious dealers who want to be part of our exciting story.

“Our dealers are busier than ever and we will launch some great new cars this year including our second fully electric car as well as a C-SUV plug-in hybrid. This further enforces the brand’s bold ambition to be synonymous with truly affordable, practical and fully electric family cars.”
