Drivers facing 5p fuel price hike

Drivers could see the cost of fuel rise by up to 5p as part of the government’s plans to pay its Covid-19 bills.

Fuel duty prices have been frozen for a decade, but Chancellor Rishi Sunak is understood to be planning a substantial hike in prices in his Autumn Budget.

That could mean an immediate 2p rise in prices, with a further 3p being added subsequently.

Fuel duty has been held at 57.95p per litre since the March 2011 Budget.
