Wales manufacturer to cut 95 jobs
A car parts manufacturer in Wales will cut 95 factory jobs due to a loss in sales.
Japanese firm Calsonic Kansei, which develops cooling systems and air conditioning components, employs about 300 people at the Carmarthenshire plant.
It has been operating since 1943 and includes Toyota and Nissan among its customer.
A company spokesman said, ‘The added pressures of market instability caused by the political and economic conditions have affected our customers’ volumes and, consequently, Calsonic Kansei’s sales have seen a significant drop. The company intends to do everything reasonably possible to reduce the impact of this proposal on its employees.’
Llanelli AM Lee Waters, who is also deputy economy minister, told BBC Radio Wales said, the company was offered a £4.4m grant in December in order to create 88 jobs in the electric automotive sector, but said it had not yet been taken up.
