Tailgaiting our number one bugbear

Tailgaiting is the most annoying driving habit among UK motorists, according to a new survey.

It found that 58% respondents to a survey of 1,000 drivers carried out by TeamSport Indoor Karting named tailgaiting as a key bugbear on the road.

Exactly half said they found not indicating annoying, while 43% listed driving with main beams on.

Also on the top 10 list of annoying habits was cutting in (40%), parking across two spaces (40%), not being thanked for letting someone in (38%), middle lane hogging (35%), late braking (30%), not being let out (29%), and undertaking (27%).

Despite so many finding these habits annoying, a significant number of Brits admit that they are guilty of committing the acts themselves. One in five (20%) drivers admit to tailgating, while nearly a third (31%)  revealed that they sometimes don’t indicate.

The research also explored who is the most likely to commit these top 10 irritating acts, revealing the most annoying drivers in the UK. While a staggering 85% of 18-34 year olds have committed at least one of the top 10 annoying habits, this drops to 79% for 35-54s and 68% for over 55s.

Also, men and women are actually equally annoying when driving, with 77% of each admitting to being guilty of at least one of the habits.
