BMW and Toyota issue Brexit warnings
BMW and Toyota have both issued warnings that a no-deal Brexit could impact future investments in the UK.
BMW has said it would consider moving production of its Mini away from the UK, while Toyota has warned it would consider future investments in its Derby plant.
BMW board member Peter Schwarzenbauer said it would at least have to ‘consider’ moving its Mini production away from its factory near Oxford.
Meanwhile, Johan van Zyl, head of Toyota’s European operations, said, ‘We want a regulatory framework between the UK and EU which is the same. We hope still that that can be the outcome.’
Toyota has recently invested £240m in its plant at Burnaston, near Derby, while there have been reports that BMW has been planning significant investments in its Mini plant.
