Beckham banned from driving

The stricter laws about using a phone while driving claimed a high-profile victim yesterday when former England captain David Beckham lost his license after being found guilty of the offence.

The 44-year-old, who already had six points on his licence for speeding, has been banned from driving for six months and fined £750 after pleading guilty.

He was spotted using his phone while driving in ‘slow moving traffic’ by a member of the public back in November.

In September, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player was accused of ‘shirking his responsibility’ as a role model when he avoided prosecution on a speeding charge because of a technicality.

He accepted he drove a loaned Bentley at 59mph in a 40mph zone, but his lawyer successfully fought any action because the speeding notice arrived one day late.
