MP Rolls with it
Rolls-Royce welcomed The Rt Hon Nick Gibb, Minister for School Standards and MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, to the company’s headquarters and manufacturing plant during National Apprenticeship Week.
National Apprenticeship Week is an annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships and this year was themed ‘Apprenticeships Work’. Fittingly, the MP met with current Rolls-Royce apprentices from leather, wood, paint, engineering and assembly roles to hear at first-hand the knowledge and skills they have gained since joining the scheme. The apprentices were joined by colleagues who have successfully completed the apprenticeship programme and are now progressing towards management roles in the company.
He learnt how Rolls-Royce apprentices combine nationally-recognised college courses with on-the-job training, working alongside the leading craftspeople and professionals who design and build the world’s best-selling super-luxury cars.
He said, ‘It was a pleasure to meet the Rolls-Royce apprentices. Their commitment and developing expertise was very clear from the way they each described their particular contribution to the creative and manufacturing process.” He continued, “I’m delighted that Rolls-Royce is so committed to the apprenticeship programme, helping to ensure our country has the skills it needs to compete in a competitive global market.’
The MP’s visit follows the manufacturer’s recent announcement that it is recruiting a record number of places for its 2018 Apprenticeship Programme. This year, 24 candidates will have the opportunity to join the team at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
