Lookers goes on apprentice drive
National motor retailer, Lookers is continuing its commitment to future talent with the announcement of more than 160 new apprenticeship positions.
The roles, which are now open for applications, further increase on the number that Lookers welcomed onto its programme last year, and cements its support for young talent. Lookers hopes to double its number of female apprentices in this year’s intake and, in order to achieve this, is in the process of launching a dedicated network to provide additional support during their training.
The Female Apprentice Network will provide an online, and social media forum, that will enable the participants to learn from each other and share experiences, as well as allow for regular opportunities to meet up.
Steve Maule, head of qualifications at Lookers, said, ‘2017 was a huge year for our apprenticeship programme and was a real statement of intent about the importance we place on attracting bright young talent into the business.
‘This year we continue our investment in the programme as well as placing additional focus on attracting female apprentices, something that has traditionally been a struggle for the Motor Industry. We aim to have the right infrastructure and support networks in place to achieve this objective. Apprentices are a huge part of our recruitment strategy at Lookers and they have an important part to play in the future of the wider motor industry.’
The moves come as part of the National Apprenticeship Week, which runs until 9 March.
