Formula Student competitors use LOCTITE

The benefits of LOCTITE products are being leveraged by the University of Hertfordshire UH Racing Team in its participation at Formula Student.

With its sights firmly set on a top 10 position in the UK event of Formula Student, which takes place on 13-15 July at Silverstone, the focus this year for the University of Hertfordshire UH Racing Team is on ‘evolution not revolution’.

‘Among key areas for the 2018 car is weight reduction in just about every area,’ explained Elliott Cook, team leader in the University of Hertfordshire UH Racing Team. ‘As a result, we are introducing a higher percentage of composites, including – for the first time – a pre-preg carbon fibre plenum, which is part of the intake system. The side and main diffusers are also now manufactured from carbon-fibre composites.’

Aerodynamics is among further areas of scrutiny, with the University of Hertfordshire UH Racing Team 2018 car sporting opening rear wings as part of the DRS (drag reduction system). And, although the engine is the same as that used in 2017, the turbocharger has been replaced to provide better efficiency and power.

As part of the 2018 car’s build, the team is using LOCTITE adhesives, retaining compounds, threadlockers, mould release agents and flange sealants in a variety of applications.

Along with the Formula Student UK event at Silverstone, the University of Hertfordshire UH Racing Team has announced it will also compete in the Czech Formula Student event taking place on 31 July to 4 August.
