Online learning takes off at Fix Auto
The Fix Auto UK network’s thirst for learning has become evident following the introduction of its free-to-all online learning portal service six months ago.
Team members from Fix Auto bodyshops across the country have engaged with the service, which contains more than 150 short, video-based courses covering a wide range of subjects including HR, communication, project management, compliance, finance, IT, leadership and health and wellbeing.
Three franchisee team members have taken their learning to a completely new level. Rachel McGuinness of Fix Auto Croydon, along with Danny Marsland and Heather-Leigh Benson, both of Fix Auto Blackpool & Fylde, have successfully completed all 157 online courses available, and are locked in a competition to complete new courses as they become available.
Rachel became the first person in the network to complete all of the modules, when the catalogue contained 150 modules. She said, ‘My view is that, as a director of a business, how can I ask team members to undertake the courses without understanding the content myself? Rather than viewing it as a potential waste of time, I feel that I am now able categorise the courses for a specific area of the business, and direct team members to certain areas that will be of benefit to their role. I believe they form a great baseline foundation for anyone’s career development.’
Danny, a senior vehicle damage assessor who briefly overtook Rachel on the leader board when new courses were released, added, ‘I’m not normally someone who’s a bookworm and didn’t particularly enjoy studying at college, but the courses have really been hugely beneficial to my work and surprisingly, my personal life.
‘Heather and I walk into work eager to see what new course we can tackle next. Best of all, most can be completed in under 30 minutes, so they can be done during our spare time or lunch break.’
Office manager Heather, added, ‘Danny and I started the online learning together and we both found the courses insightful. We check the system regularly to see if a new course has been made available.’
Tom Hadfield, head of marketing at Fix Auto UK, said, ‘A lot of the talk during our 2016 National Conference was about achieving peak performance and the online learning platform is integral to this goal. I was pleasantly surprised to see this little competition develop between Rachel, Heather and Danny, and I am sure it is only a matter of time before others join them at the top of the leader board. There is no doubt in my mind that our investment in providing the service has been a major success.’
