‘Homing’ device tracks stolen caravan
A tracking device has helped police reunite a couple with their stolen motorhome.
Brrglars made off with a Mercedes Sprinter motorhome worth around £60,000, but the vehicle was fitted a device from TRACKER, the stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) experts, which led police straight to the location of the motorhome.
Mr and Mrs Twigg contacted the police when returning home to find their home had been ransacked and their motorhome stolen, using the keys that had been left inside the house.
After calling the police, the TRACKER device was activated and the signal was able to lead police to a stretch of waste ground 15 miles away where the motorhome was recovered.
Andy Barrs, head of police liaison at TRACKER, said, ‘We’re in the middle of the caravan season, which means thieves are on the lookout for easy pickings. Mr and Mrs Twigg found out the hard way that criminals take any opportunity they can, breaking into homes to seize keys and then drive off with a valued holiday home. Fortunately, they had the foresight to request TRACKER Locate when they received delivery of their brand new motorhome and it made all the difference in helping police recovery the stolen van.
‘Once again TRACKER’s relationship with UK police forces paid off and the Twiggs were reunited with their motorhome, but too many get away. We urge caravan enthusiasts to focus on security and close the net on thieves. Although a TRACKER device won’t stop a caravan being stolen it does significantly increase the chances of police locating and recovering it, which could even lead to the successful arrests of the culprits.’
