Ford and Volvo earn ethical vote

Ford and Volvo have both been named among the world’s most ethical companies.

Ford has made the list for the eighth year in a row, the longest streak of any auto manufacturer.

The list, compiled by Ethisphere Institute, recognises companies for driving positive change by mandating ethical practices and promoting corporate citizenship as well as responsible governance and leadership

Ford’s commitment to ethics is evident in programmes aimed at monitoring human rights and safe working conditions, sourcing conflict-free minerals, to programmes such as the Partnership for a Cleaner Environment, which is aimed at encouraging sustainability through Ford’s supply chain.

Ford also fosters long-term relationships with suppliers through active engagement, which includes sharing best practices, as well as providing training and evaluations to ensure suppliers meet both legal requirements and Ford standards.

Bill Ford, Ford Motor Company executive chairman, said, ‘Strong ethics and corporate citizenship are the foundation of our business philosophy, which demonstrates to our customers what we stand for as a company. This honour is a reflection of Ford’s core values, and it shows that our employees are continuing to make the right decisions every day for all of our stakeholders.’

Meanwhile, Volvo has also made the list.

Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, said, ‘I’m very proud that Volvo Cars has been recognised as one of the world’s most ethical companies. Responsible business is a fundamental part of Volvo Cars’ heritage, and engrained in our corporate culture. An ethical approach is not just the right thing to do, but it brings financial value too.’

Cummins Inc. and Delphi Automotive PLC were also honoured in the World’s Most Ethical Companies list.
