April set to fool a few
The vehicle manufacturers put forward some novel ideas on 1 April with in-car dating and emoji apps, car drone deliveries and dog baskets all ‘introduced’.
Honda announced the launch of a new in-car dating app that helps drivers ‘find love at the wheel’. It claimed the H-Swipe app connects to an innovative digital windscreen and interactive directional windscreen ‘s-wipers’, and uses geolocation technology to pinpoint the nearest potential dating candidate. The driver then uses the windscreen wipers to swipe left or right, either accepting or rejecting and moving on to the next eligible suitor.
Meanwhile, MG Motor UK Ltd unveiled its ‘state-of-the-art MG Inter-Car Emoji (MICE) technology’ which claimed ‘the boffins (lead by prof Hans Frei) have mastered infusing LED technology into both front and rear windscreens, enabling drivers to communicate their innermost thoughts via huge emoji icons.’
Hyundai Motor UK also got in on the act by ‘launching’ Click to Fly, the world’s first car delivery service by drone whilst BMW promised furry passengers could now enjoy the ‘exhilaration of the open road’ with its BMW dDrive dog basket.
Well done to all those who offered up an April Fools’ press release… worryingly there’s an air of inevitability to all of them.
