ABI warns against cyber threat
The Association of British Insurers has told the crash repair industry that the cyber attacks that hit the NHS and other organisations in more than 150 countries is a ‘wake-up call’ for all businesses.
James Dalton, director of General Insurance Policy at the ABI, said, ‘These latest cyber attacks on 150 countries across the globe are a wake-up call for every type of business. All firms, whatever their size, are in the sights of cyber criminals, with an attack causing significant disruption and even potentially putting the existence of the business at risk. Attacks such as this highlight the benefits provided by cyber insurance, with insurers paying claims to their customers, working around-the-clock to assist with forensic IT support and helping their customers to reduce the risk of being hit by further cyber attacks.’
‘It is important that businesses step-up their awareness of this issue now. Incorporating strong cyber security measures, whatever the type of organisation, is key to managing the crippling nature of cyber crime.’
