Outlander sets hybrid pace

More than half of all plug-in hybrids ever registered in the UK are one brand.

Mitsubishi has just announced that sales of its Outlander PHEV have topped the 25,000 mark, which is approximately half the total number of hybrid registrations since in 2010.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was launched in May 2014. Only 2,770 plug-in hybrids had been registered for use on UK roads by then, but that figure had swelled to more than 10,000 by the end of the year with the Outlander accounting for 5,354 of those vehicles.

There were more than 13 plug-in hybrids on the market by the end of last year, but the Outlander still led the way with 11,681 sales out of a total of 19,000 – or 61% of the market. So far this year Mitsubishi has recorded almost 7,800 Outlander PHEV registrations.

Lance Bradley, managing director Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said, ‘We’re extremely proud of the role the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has played in building awareness and acceptance of electrically-powered vehicles in the UK and thanks to its unmatched combination of practicality, ease-of-use, elegant styling and low running costs, we are confident of maintaining our market-leading position well into the future.’
